Felix Nwosu Delighted With His Boys’ Performance, Expresses Optimism Ahead of Viareggio Cup in Italy

Speaking after the encounter, Coach Nwosu explained that the friendly match was part of the build-up towards the youth tournament, which kicks off in March. “There is a tournament we are preparing for in Italy,the biggest youth tournament in the world. This will be the first time a government-sponsored team from Nigeria will be attending such a competition,” he said. Despite the convincing result, the experienced tactician was quick to point out that the outing revealed areas that still require attention. “Result aside, the majority of the boys who will be travelling did not participate in the game. The match exposed a few deficiencies that we need to work on before travelling,” he noted. Coach Nwosu further revealed that the club has been actively involved in recruitment, with selected players set to enter a closed camping programme from 1st February. “We have been on a recruitment exercise, and those found good enough to travel with us will enter a close camp from February 1. Training will be intensified in all ramifications, and top-quality friendly games will be used to put the boys in shape before we depart for Italy,” he explained. The youth team coach also used the opportunity to call on individuals and corporate organisations to support the club financially as they prepare to represent Nigeria on the global stage. “So far, the management is trying its best, but I personally wish that more sponsors and partners will come in to support the youth set-up. The camp needs a facelift, and that cannot be achieved by the General Manager alone. Lovers of the beautiful game in Enugu and beyond should fully support us. We are open to partnerships in terms of branding, promotions, sponsorships, and more,” he stated. On the injury front, Coach Nwosu confirmed that there are currently no concerns. “For now, none. All the players pencilled for the trip are in good health condition. Hopefully, the fitness level remains top,” he assured. He concluded by appealing to fans to rally behind the team as preparations gather momentum. “I want to adjure our fans to give us all-round support. Your prayers, advice, financial support, and goodwill messages are invaluable to us,” he concluded.
